TSCF Earns Fifth Consecutive 4-Star Rating from Charity Navigator

On April 1, 2014, Charity Navigator announced that The Sierra Club Foundation earned its fifth consecutive 4-star rating, the highest rating a charity can achieve, for sound fiscal management and commitment to accountability and transparency. Only 4 percent of charities evaluated by Charity Navigator have received at least five consecutive 4-star ratings.

“The Sierra Club Foundation’s coveted 4-star rating puts it in a very select group of high-performing charities,” according to Ken Berger, President and CEO of Charity Navigator. “The Sierra Club Foundation’s supporters should feel much more confident that their hard-earned dollars are being used efficiently and responsibly when it acquires such a high rating.”

Charity Navigator evaluates charities based on measures of financial responsibility, accountability, and transparency. Receiving four out of a possible four stars indicates that TSCF consistently executes its mission in a fiscally responsible way and adheres to good governance and other best practices that minimize the chance of unethical activities.

The mission of TSCF is to help educate, inspire and empower humanity to preserve the natural and human environment. We do this by raising funds donated for tax-exempt charitable purposes and by preserving, enhancing, and administering these funds so that future generations will inherit a healthy planet with wild places left to explore. With nearly $100 million in assets, The Sierra Club Foundation spends nearly 90 percent of its funds on environmental and conservation programs.
