The United Nations Foundation’s Universal Access Project in partnership with the Sierra Club and Planned Parenthood Federation of America announced the first-ever Why We Care Youth contest. Why We Care Youth allows young people living in the U.S. to share why they care about access to reproductive health and contraception and expanding access around the world.

Young people aged 18-25 can submit written pieces, photo essays, or videos to enter the contest. Winning entries will be chosen in each category, and the three winners will get to attend events around the UN General Assembly in New York. The deadline for entries is August 17th. Winners will be announced on August 25th.

The Sierra Club Foundation’s mission to protect and improve the natural and human environment cannot be met without addressing the intimate connection between human health and well-being, global population, and our natural world. We are a major funder of the Sierra Club’s Global Population and Environment Program, which seeks to protect the global environment and preserve natural resources for future generations by ensuring women have access to voluntary family planning, education, and economic opportunities. Ultimately, these solutions will slow population growth, improve the lives of women and families, and ensure the sustainability of our planet.

Tianna Scozzaro, Director of the Sierra Club’s Global Population and Environment Program. “That’s why this contest is so important. By raising our voices for women around the world, we can help make life better and safer for all women and we can help our planet too.”
