An independent, volunteer Board of Directors, supported by a professional staff, governs The Sierra Club Foundation. The Board primarily focuses on enhancing the overall performance of the Foundation and supporting the charitable and educational work of the Sierra Club and other grantees.

Larry Keeshan, Chair - Mr. Keeshan is an attorney in Berkeley, CA. He previously served as Global General Counsel for PricewaterhouseCoopers. He has also practiced law with the firms Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, and Heller Ehrman. Mr. Keeshan is an avid hiker, cross-country skier and traveler.
Marni McKinney, Vice Chair - Ms. McKinney is the Chairman of the Indiana Community Bank Board for Marshall & Ilsley Bank. She is also the President of the McKinney Family Foundation which is focused on national, state and local environmental issues. She resides in Indianapolis and enjoys sailing, snow skiing, theater, contemporary art, design and travel.
Tim Ryan, Treasurer - Mr. Ryan served as CFO and director of mutual funds for Dodge & Cox investment managers. He now volunteers his time with various environmental and community organizations in Northern California and travels extensively with his wife Annette.
Sanjay Ranchod, Secretary - Mr. Ranchod is Assistant General Counsel and Director, Policy and Electricity Markets at SolarCity. He previously practiced law at the Paul Hastings law firm. Mr. Ranchod served on the Sierra Club's Board of Directors from 2004-2010, where he initiated the organization's first mission-focused investment in clean tech and helped lead a diversity initiative. He resides in Albany, CA.
Molly O. Ross, Officer at Large - Ms. Ross is Co-Owner and President of Deltex Royalty Company Inc. and LMA Royalties, LTD. She is also President of the Swift Wings Foundation which she created to support advances in renewable energy, environmental sustainability, the arts, poverty and social justice. She resides in Castle Rock, CO.
Geeta Aiyer - Ms. Aiyer is Founder and President of Boston Common Asset Management. She has pioneered the expansion of Sustainable and Responsible Investing into the global space and is involved in movements for the environment, immigration, labor, and women’s rights. Ms. Aiyer has founded two companies, Walden Capital Management and East India Spice, and an NGO, Direct Action for Women Now.
Peter Cartwright - Mr. Cartwright is Managing Partner of Avalon EcoPower, LLC, a firm seeking to develop, own, and operate ecologically and economically sound power plants utilizing renewable energy backed by natural gas. Previously, he founded Calpine Corp., the largest geothermal company, which owns the nation's largest fleet of efficient natural gas power plants. He resides in Selva Beach, CA.
Allison Chin - Ms. Chin works in biotechnology, focusing on developing biopharmaceuticals for treating cancer and chronic degenerative diseases. She joined the Sierra Club to fight for the protection of public lands, and has been an outings leader for over 25 years. Ms. Chin served on the Sierra Club Board of Directors from 2007-2013, and as President for three of those years. She resides in Leesburg, Virginia.
Susan Heitman - Ms. Heitman is a long-time Sierra Club volunteer leader and member. She recently retired after a career in communications, most recently serving as the Associate Senior Vice President for University Public Relations at University of Southern California. She resides in Los Angeles, CA.
Juan Martinez - Mr. Martinez is the Director of Leadership Development at the Children & Nature Network. He is a national spokesman on the importance of getting youth into the outdoors, a North Face Ambassador and a 2011 National Geographic Young Explorer Award Recipient. In 2009 he was invited by the White House to attend the National Forum on Clean Energy Economy.
Michael Ortiz - Mr. Ortiz is starting in fall 2014 as Head of OTC Structured Products for ED&F Man, managing trading desks around the world. He previously built out the OTC commodity derivatives businesses for INTL FCStone, the Australian Wheat Board, Cargill, Merrill Lynch, and Refco. He resides in Chicago and Aspen and enjoys alpine climbing, backcountry skiing, kayaking, and sailing.
Mike Richter - Mr. Richter is partner at Healthy Planet Partners: a project finance fund which finances and manages the deployment of renewable energy technologies for sports facilities. He had a 15 year career in the NHL as a goaltender with the New York Rangers, winning the 1994 Stanley Cup. Mr. Richter is also a 2002 Olympic silver medalist and is in the US Hockey Hall of Fame.
Dan Shugar - Mr. Shugar is the CEO of the Solaria Corporation, a global manufacturer of advanced solar photovoltaic modules. He has been active in solar power and renewable energy industry since 1988 and is an active supporter of the Club's energy work. He resides in San Bruno, CA.
Doug Walker - Mr. Walker co-founded and served as CEO of WRQ. He serves on numerous boards including the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, The Wilderness Society, The American Alpine Club and Forterra. He is past chair of Recreational Equipment, Inc. (REI). Mr. Walker is an avid hiker, mountain climber and bicycle commuter.
Marc Weiss - Mr. Weiss is best known as creator and Executive Producer of P.O.V., the award-winning PBS documentary series. He has been a leader in the independent media movement for forty years as a filmmaker, journalist, organizer and innovator. He recently executive produced "A Fierce Green Fire." He resides in Manhattan and is a bike commuter, hiker and avid racquetball player.
Shirley Weese Young - Ms. Young is a graphic designer and founder and partner of Two Green Giants, a landscape design business. Her environmental interests include land conservation and wind energy and she is an active supporter of the Sierra Club’s Great Lakes Wind Project. Shirley resides in Chicago, Illinois.
